Web 2.0 Applications

The first topic I want to discuss is what Wiki's are.  They can be compared to a website and word document combined.  People can work on it together and the site consist of nothing but a simple web browser. This means that editing comes easily.  While people try to keep track of information of news and what is going on this is great because all the information is saved and already there all in the same place.  So there is no need for searching for different documents in all different locations.  It will all be stored there together and cuts out all of the hastle of keeping up with information in different places.  When a wiki is updated the current news is stored and the old information is replaced. Wiki's can great for group work in the classroom.  It is great for students to work together on group reports.  It can be used as each person's course website.  I think that wiki's are very beneficial because instead of just using on persons idea on a project you can get multiple points of view and combine them into one.  This would help students to open their minds and have other views on a subject instead of just their own.

What I have learned so far?

I have learned that you can add a u-tube video to your blog page.  When doing so, you will need to add the information of where you recieved the video and give the reference of where you recieved it.  You do not want to just take a video that someone else made themselves and use it as your own and try to take credit for that.  It is also wrong when people record a movie onto dvd's and then sell them and make profit off of something that is not even theirs in the first place.  That is not fair and if you get caught doing this you could recieve fines or even jail time.  If a teacher wants to record a television show such as "Animail Planet", it is ok for them to record it and then let the students watch that in class.  That is not breaking any of the copyright laws. 

How do you feel about it?
I am really excited about know how to post utube videos.  Haha, I am so computer deprived it is ridiculous.  I am lucky to have Ms. Lin show me how to actually do that.  Now that I do know how this is done I will probably be putting more u-tube vidoes on my blogger.  I am really interested in working out and living a healthy lifestyle.  I really like watching UFC fighting as well and George St. Pierre is my favorite fighter.  You may see some footage from him on my blogger.  It really is amazing that we are allowed to have access to videos and footage like this.  I also hope that I stick to the copyright laws now that I know what they are.  Those laws are serious because you could get fined or jail time if they are violated.

Mapping Activity

I really did not know a whole lot about mapping websites before this assignment.  Search engines are really important for the research process.  I have pretty much used research process throughout high school and also through college.  It helps you find out any information you could possibly need or imagine.  I really love using wikipedia it is a great search engine source for me.  Wikipedia is a way to search anything that you need to know about.  You can find out whatever you need from this search engine. It is a great way to find out anything you could possibly need to help you out with through school or just information that you are lacking that may benefit you through what you need to know just in general throughout life.  This will really help me through my years while trying to further my education.

I will be able to incorporate what I learned by using the mapping process during the future as a student.  As I use computer technology while I am in school it helps me understand things that I am learning in class to the full extent.  So if I do not understand exactly what my professor was teaching in the classroom I can just use different search engines to help me find the exact information that I am looking for.  Also as a teacher I want my students to understand and get all of the information they need.  If I can not provide all of the information needed for the student to recieve the information needed to their full potential I will let them know how mapping can be used and what it has to offer them in meeting the goals they need to be completely successful in my classroom.  I want my students to know that whatever they cannot understand is easily discoverable through computer technology.  They may just have to put a little extra reasearh into what they do not exactly comprehend but it is possible through this to make that happen. 

Mapping can be a great resouce for students that are needing to use sites for their classes throughout their school years.  They need to know references, history of the website, and contacts that are made.  A lot of instructors want to know this information so that they know the students are not just copying the exact information given from the websites used by the students.  This seems to be fair and understandable so that students cannot just copy information given from a certain website or web page.  In certain projects given by instructiors they want a lot of different information given on a certain subject and mapping will allow the students to do this.  This will allow students to go above and beyond what the instructors are looking for and this will be a really great impact for everyone.

Week 2

My name is Lana McFarlin and I am attending Texas A&M Commerce to receive my all level Kinesiology degree. I want to coach and teach high school physical education and health. I would also love to teach physical education for any grade Kindergarten through twelve. I played soccer in high school and here at Texas A&M Commerce. I want to coach girls high school soccer, softball, and volleyball. I think coaching and teaching would be a great career for me since I am a single mom and it would also work well with my two sons schedule as well. Their names are Connor who is four and Hudson who is two. My hobbies are working out and that consist of lifting weights, running, playing soccer, and spending time with my family and friends.

 I think that education technology is very important. It makes teaching easier and quicker for the teachers and students. Teachers can teach their lessons from a computer using a slide show instead of a chalkboard. The lesson will not take as long to teach because the teacher will not have to write everything out on a chalk board.  The lesson is already planned ahead and typed up and then the teacher can move from one slide to the next quickly. Then the students can learn more at a time. I feel like as an educator the students expect me to know more than they do about education. As an educator I think I should know more about technology than the students. If the students think they know more about the information than the teacher, then the students will probably not pay attention to the teacher. So that is very important for the teacher to be very prepared and know what they are teaching the students and to also know how to use different technology devices the same as the students do.  Also students now come from a generation of growing up with technology in their everyday lives.  This makes it easier on the students and more difficult for the educators because we have to catch up with what the students already know. 

My goals from this class are to learn different ways to teach my classes by using different technologies.  Students already know more about different technologies than I do so I hope to at least get on the same level as my students will be.  As a teacher I want to figure out what students are interested in as far as learning with technologies.  If I know what the students like and what interest them then I can use that to keep their focus.  Once I have their focus then I can have their total attention and the learning process will be easier for them.  I would like to have an overview at the end of each class and use clickers to quiz the students over what they learned.  When using clickers I will be able to see as a teacher where I failed and what I connected well with the students.  Clickers will not pressure the students and they will feel more comfortable in their environment and I think this will help them learn more efficiently.   Also if the students did not understand what I was discussing the first time they can have a second chance to retain the information presented to them.

BLOG POSTING CHAPTER 3 PAGE 54

The three principles that I that are the best to me are discovery principle, committed learning, and practice principle.    Learners can comprehend more when trying things out for themselves instead of just listening to a teacher and that is it.  Repeating and practice is one of the best ways to learn because you tell your brain or body to do it over and over again and then it just comes natural to you and it becomes hard to forget.  This is the same thing as when I learned how to play soccer.  Over time kicking the ball just became natural to me and I didn't have to think about it before doing it.  Discovery principles are one of the best as well because it consist of the students collecting infromation for themselves and coming up with all of the data from reasearch that they come up with.  This is more likely for the students to remember as well because since they researched it they are more likely to remember what it is about. All of these principles would benefit the best because they would involve the students using what they and trying things for themselves.  Rather than the teacher teaching one certain thing and the students just learning that one thing.

I would stress the importants on how being in cardio-vascular shape is an important factor when it comes to your physical health and being in shape for competing with other students within the school district between the varsity girls soccer.  I would have the girl students focus on keeping their heart rate up for long periods of time by jumping rope for ten minutes, different sprint drill, and different passing drill with the soccer ball.  Also another big thing to incorporate in would be shooting the ball while running.  This is really important to know how to do when in motion because it is very difficult at times.  Another drill we would need to know is different routes when performing a out of bounds or penalty kick. 

As a teacher it is very important for my students to know the importance about all of the different types of learners.  My job is to make sure all of my students know and understand what I am trying to teach.  If they do not understand from a visual aspect then I will make sure they can learn it written out on paper.  The best way to know if my students are learning is to have them all perform what it is they have been taught and then as the teacher I can tell them what they need to work on and adjust.  This will be so exciting for me to get out there and experience it all.
